A vast estate, resulting from the grouping together of several sugar cane properties, the lands Homère Clément acquired in 1887, are covered with sugar cane, the “green gold” of Martinique. The wind mill of the place was then obsolete, so harvests were delivered to the factory in Le François before the Habitation built its own distillery.
Cruzan
Founded in 1760, it claims the distinction of being "the most honored rum distillery in the world." For eight generations, and through various changes in corporate ownership, it has been managed by the Nelthropp family.

The Bellevue agricultural estate and corresponding industrial plant, located in the commune of Le Moule in Grande-Terre, were founded at the end of the 19th century by a certain Rimbaud, originally from Martinique. Mr. Damoiseau père (Father) acquired the estate in April 1942 and launched the distillery of the same name.

In 1926, the Seale family began buying rum from distilleries around the island, blending it and selling it under the name, R.L. Seale. This continued through to the 1990s, with the company acquiring further brands such as Doorly’s and producing fantastic ranges of rums.

During the reign of King Louis Philippe 1st of France, Louis and Charles Isautier set out from mainland France and sailed across the oceans to move to Réunion Island. Fascinated by the island and its wealth of sugar cane, they founded the family business in 1845. Six successive generations of the Isautier family have built up the distinguished history of the oldest distillery on Réunion Island.

In 2005, when the production of old rum in Guadeloupe was still very marginal, Grégoire Hayot, after many years spent alongside Jean-Luc Damoiseau to modernize the Damoiseau distillery, resuscitated the Karukera brand, created in the 1970s.

The Montebello distillery has a long and rich history, having been founded in 1930. However, it wasn't until the Marsolle family took over in 1965 that the business really began to thrive. Now, in its 4th generation of distillers, the Montebello distillery continues to produce high-quality rum using traditional methods. Despite the higher cost, the distillery insists on keeping things old-fashioned, which is a unique and admirable quality in today's world.

In 1703, Mount Gay was established in Barbados, marking the beginning of its rich heritage. As the oldest rum distillery and one of the oldest distilleries globally, this is where rum originated.

In 1879, Fred L. Myers began producing rum from pure Jamaican sugarcane juice in Kingston. Myers's rum became globally recognized and represents nearly a century and a half of Caribbean heritage and pride.

The Neisson rum distillery has its origins in the 1930s, when two brothers obtained the Thieubert house, a 20-hectare plot of land with sugarcane fields.

Père Labat rum is produced by the Poisson distillery, which was initially a sugar refinery established in 1860. It later became a distillery at the start of the 20th century.

Rum production has been ongoing at the Reimonenq distillery since 1916. Léopold Reimonenq, who took over from his father and uncle in 1959, has successfully managed the distillery and has continued to explore new methods and innovations. Among his creations is a heat exchanger designed for the distillation column, which enables precise regulation of heating temperatures.

Paulin Lambert finally purchased several "Habitations," including "Trou Vaillant." Was he already aware of the potential of "Saint James" as a name? An English-sounding name opened vast horizons! Be that as it may, he registered the brand on 21 August 1882 and personally took charge of production, demanding that the entire process be controlled, from growing the sugar cane to bottling.

In 1811, Gustav Julius Volmer, a young German merchant, married Panchita Ribas. She was the only survivor in her family from the war of independence. That started a family story that led to the creation of one of the world's most famous rums.

St. Lucia Distillers
